Norway's seafood exports up 12%
Norway's seafood exports have amounted to NOK22 billion (US$4.08 billion) in the first five months of 2011, up 12% compared to the same period in 2010 and hit a new record level.
Norway's seafood exports in May amounted to a record high NOK4 billion (US$742 million), which was 6% higher than in May 2010. The growth is a result of a strong market for salmon, herring, and mackerel.
The export value for salmon was NOK12.6 billion (US$2.3 billion) in the first five months of 2011, up 14% compared to 2010. Herring exports increased by NOK330 million (US$61.2 million) to NOK2 billion (US$371 million), and mackerel exports increased NOK242 million (US$44.9 million) to NOK711 million (US$131.9 million).
