Antibiotic-resistant E. Coli bacteria found in Danish chickens

Denmark's Veterinary and Food Administration and DTU Food Institute has discovered antibiotic-resistant E. Coli bacteria in Danish chickens.

The ESBL bacteria was detected in 27% of the total of 200 tests made in 2010 on Danish broilers, and in 8.6% of tests made on Danish poultry. So far, Danish chickens have been free of E. Coli bacteria contamination.

The Veterinary and Food Administration and DTU Food Institute now aim to take measures to find the source of the contamination.
