Russia to suspend Brazilian meat imports in June

Russia has decided to temporarily suspend Brazilian imports of beef, chicken and pork as from June 15, according to Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Rosselkhoznadzor.

The ban will affect a total of 85 meat producers in the southern Brazilian states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as in Mato Grosso, in the Center-West.

Meat from elsewhere in Brazil will be subject to stricter sanitary controls, Rosselkhoznadzor said.

In May, Brazilian authorities said that new inspections would be carried out at Brazilian beef, pork and poultry producing facilities qualified to export to Russia, the main buyer of Brazilian meat products.
