COVID-19 cases reported at Marfig and Minerva's Brazil beef plants but both remain operational
Brazilian based Marfig Global Foods and Minerva SA have reported positive COVID-19 cases among its cattle plant workers, but operations continue as normal, Reuters reported.
Marfig's plant in Varzea Grande, Mato Grosso state reported 14 COVID-19 positive workers. 55 workers in Minvera's Araguaina city, Tocantins state plant have reported positive for COVID-19 among its 730 workers there total.
Previously, only JBS SA and BRF SA pork and chicken processing plants in south Brazil has reported COVID-19 cases. Some of the plants were closed temporarily to stop the spread of the virus but have since reopened.
Marfig said it has isolated all COVID-19 infected workers along with others in contact with them, as well as disinfected the plant. Minerva has done the same for its workers, but has only confirmed that it will reduce production in its plant.
