Mexico concerned over labour practises in US agriculture and meatpacking industries
Mexico has voiced concerns over alleged failures in enforcing labour laws in United States agriculture and meatpacking industries, Reuters reported.
Mexico's letter to US Labour Secretary Marty Walsh highlighted issues such as alleged abuses on Mexican migrant workers in US agriculture and meatpacking industries, such as wages being delayed, and restrictions imposed on union organising.
The letter followed a request made by the United States Trade Representative about reviewing alleged labour violations at a General Motors Co. factory in Mexico. The request was made under enforcement powers as part of the new United States-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.
