Vietnam's animal feed imports from Argentina up by 103.6% in Q1 2025
Argentina emerged as Vietnam's largest supplier of animal feed in the first three months of 2025, accounting for 42.4% of the country's total import value in this sector.
Imports from Argentina reached nearly US$ 495.56 million, representing a sharp year-on-year increase of 103.6%.
In March alone, imports from the South American country stood at US$ 133.42 million—down 45.2% from February 2025, but up 17.1% compared to March 2024.
Brazil ranked second, supplying more than US$ 188.15 million worth of animal feed, or 16.1% of Vietnam's total imports in this category. This figure reflects a 3.9% decline year-on-year.
In March 2025, imports from Brazil reached US$ 64.51 million—down 27.2% from February but significantly up by 66.6% compared to the same month last year.
According to preliminary data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the country's imports of animal feed and raw materials have reached US$1.17 billion in the first quarter of 2025, marking a slight decline of 3.3% in the same period in 2024. Vietnamese feed imports in March 2025 was estimated at US$ 368.03 million—down 26.3% from February 2025 and 21.3% lower than in March 2024.
Meanwhile, imports from the US saw a notable drop. In March 2025, Vietnam imported US$ 55.96 million worth of animal feed from the US, down 8.5% month-on-month and a sharp 54% decline year-on-year.
Overall, imports from the US in Q1 2025 reached US$ 168.52 million, down 41.5% from the first quarter of 2024, and accounting for 14.4% of the total.
Imports from free trade agreement (FTA) regions also declined. Specifically, imports from Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) countries fell 32.9% to around US$ 188.05 million, representing 16% of total import value. The RCEP countries include the 10 ASEAN member states and five other countries—Australia, China, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand.
Imports from the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) markets dropped 18.5% to US$ 36.06 million, accounting for 3.1%. Meanwhile, imports from Southeast Asia totalled approximately US$ 81.38 million, down 4.1%, and making up 7% of Vietnam's total animal feed imports. The CPTPP countries include Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
