Livestock Asia 2015: Bigger, better and more timely this time around

Asia's International Feed, Livestock and Meat Industry biennial show returns to Malaysia on September 21-23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The flagship event of the other Asian Livestock series, Livestock Asia 2015 serves as Malaysia's international platform for its reinvigorated meat and livestock industries.
Since its debut in 2001, Livestock Asia has developed a reputation as one of the region's best-attended feed-to-meat trade exhibition, growing bigger and better each time. This time around, the show will be 20% bigger than in 2013 in both number of exhibitors and attendance, according to Mr. M. Gandhi, managing director of UBM Asean, organiser of the event.
At the Meet the Press event held recently in Kuala Lumpur for Asian journalists, he said more than 300 companies have so far signed up to take part in the trade show as exhibitors. More than 7,000 local and international trade visitors and delegates representing integrators, veterinarians, livestock farmers, feed millers, wholesalers, retailers, food processors, importers and distributors.
Mr. Gandhi said this year's edition of Livestock Asia, which is both an exposition and a forum, takes on an added significance with the upcoming integration of all Asean economies from end of this year.
Forming into an Asean Economic Community, all ten Asean countries will become an integrated market and production base for all industries, including those on feed, meat and livestock - hence the theme "Feeding AEC's Future."
The trade show has strong support from the Department of Veterinary Services of Malaysia's Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries.
Growing populations, increasing disposable incomes and changing dietary habits among Asean countries have rapidly raised the demand for livestock products, according to Dr. Kamarudin B. Md Isa, director general of the veterinary services department.
The AEC, he said, will encourage livestock producers and allied feed and food industries to raise and harmonised their standards to meet the increasingly stringent demands in both the Asean and global markets.
Uniquely, Livestock Asia 2015 will include face-to-face networking which take a regional and whole value-chain approach to increasing the potential and competitiveness of the feed, livestock and meat industries in Asian countries to benefit not only domestic markets, but also to drive export opportunities.
Held alongside Livestock Asia, Asia Meatec Expo & Forum is making its debut this year. The side event will feature everything about meat -- from production, processing and packaging -- with an intensive showcase of knowledge and meat production applications being shared by renowned experts in the global meat sector.
The meat, poultry and seafood product value chain, says UBM, includes not just production but also processing and packaging, which is why Asia Meatec will be held with Livestock Asia. The practical synergy of these two co-located events brings all feed, livestock and meat value chain stakeholders together to share best practices and knowledge, adding to the practical appeal of both shows to exhibitors and visitors alike, it added.
Two co-sponsors of the event, the World Veterinary Poultry Association (WVPA) and World Poultry Science Association (WPSA), will hold, in conjunction with the exhibition, a Scientific Conference. The event will bring together industry experts and academic researches to share knowledge and technologies with industry practitioners in the hope of fostering future collaborations in poultry production, nutrition and health.
