BioMar's JV factory in Wuxi, China starts commercial production

The BioMar - Tongwei joint venture has begun commercial production of aqua feeds in their new factory in Wuxi, China, the aquafeed maker announced on Wednesday, May 6.

"The new facility has already proven to deliver high and consistent quality, making it possible to transfer production of high-end aqua feeds for China that were previously produced in Denmark", the company said in a press release.

The greenfield factory in Wuxi in eastern China was announced as a strategic and important growth initiative back in 2016, to bring BioMar's production knowledge from high-end species into the Chinese market.

Together with the existing factory in the south of China, the new factory will service a wide range of species all over China.

"We are very happy with this important next step to expand our activities. We have established a good business in China through a combination of local production and imported products. We are serving traditional customers as well as customers striving to bring new value propositions to retailers and end consumers", BioMar Group CEO Carlos Diaz said.

"The Wuxi factory will allow new possibilities for customers with advanced product requirements through all production life stages".

Alan Xiaoqing Qian, general manager of BioMar-Tongwei, said feeds for sturgeon, rainbow trout, Californian sea bass and large yellow croaker are ready for the market, adding that key customers have started to place orders in the new factory for products previously delivered from Denmark.

Currently, BioMar operates 14 feed factories and is currently constructing another two. The factories are located across the globe in Norway, Chile, Denmark, Scotland, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador and very soon in Australia.

BioMar is wholly owned by the Danish industrial group Schouw & Co., which is listed on the NASDAQ, Copenhagen.
