40,000 laying hens to be culled in latest Bulgaria bird flu outbreak
40,000 laying hens will be culled by Bulgarian veterinary authorities after bird flu was detected at an industrial farm in the southern village of Trilistnik, the sixth case there since the beginning of this year, Reuters reported.
A total of 194,000 hens and 160,000 ducks have been culled at five other farms in Bulgaria since February as authorities aim to prevent the spread of the virus.
According to Bulgaria's food safety agency, the highly pathogenic avian influenza type A has been detected at Trilistnik farm four times since 2017.
