Brazil expands halal poultry exports to Malaysia, eyes doubling sales

Brazil's government announced the clearance of four additional poultry plants to sell halal products to Malaysia, anticipating a potential doubling of exports to the Asian nation compared to last year's figures, Reuters reported.

As the world's largest exporter of chicken meat, Brazil aims to capitalize on this expansion, having sold 13,600 metric tonnes of halal chicken to Malaysia in 2023, valued at approximately US$20 million, according to government statistics.

The newly granted licenses cover plants situated in Parana, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rio Grande do Sul states, augmenting the total number of Brazilian units authorized to export to Malaysia to seven.

The Brazilian government views this development as a testament to Malaysia's trust in the quality of halal chicken meat produced in Brazil.

The Brazilian government said Malaysia is renowned for its stringent food quality and safety standards, particularly for halal products, which must adhere to preparation criteria in line with Islamic law.
