Classical swine fever detected in Tochigi, Japan

Authorities from Tochigi, north of Tokyo, Japan, have detected Classical swine fever (CSF) at two farms in the prefecture, NHK World Reported.

Authorities have been culling about 37,000 swine at the farms in Nasushiobara city, the biggest number of culls in 2018. They are the first known CSF cases in the prefecture.

It is unknown how the swine were infected with CSF. A team of epidemiologists from the government are investigating the matter, while prefecture authorities aim to prevent the spread of the disease.
