Brazil pig prices fall; calf, poultry sectors relish record highs
 

 

The month of March saw the average price of live pig in Brazil falling, according to the government market analysts Cepea.

 

In São Paulo State, the live-pig price registered at an average 66.29 Brazilian real (US$21.08) per arroba (11.5 kg).

 

The whole pig price quotes kept falling in March as common hog and special carcase prices fell by 9% and 9.2% respectively.

 

In comparison, calf prices reached the record high BRL1,444.22 ($451.31) for animals 8-12 months old on March 31 in Mato Grosso do Sul.

 

The poultry sector also enjoyed record revenue as fresh meat exports reached BRL1.584 billion ($503.81 million) in March, or a 29.7% increase over February and 28.7% increase over March 2014.
