Beyond Meat opens plant-based meat manufacturing facility in China


Beyond Meat has opened its new plant-based meat manufacturing facility in the Jiaxing Economic & Technological Development Zone (JXEDZ) near Shanghai to increase the speed and scale in which the company can produce and distribute its products within the region.


The new plant will produce Beyond Meat's plant-based pork, beef, and poultry products, including its new Beyond Pork developed for the China market.


It features research and development capabilities to create unique product offerings and support Beyond Meat's local strategic partners, while also supporting the company's expanding retail and foodservice business within China,


Ethan Brown, CEO and founder of Beyond Meat, said the dedicated plant-based meat facility in China shows the company's commitment to investing in the country as a region for long-term growth, as well as being important in advancing their pricing and sustainability metrics.


The opening of the Beyond Meat plant comes one year after the company first entered China through a partnership with Starbucks China. Since then, Beyond Meat has expanded its menu offerings with Starbucks China and partnered with other foodservice and retail brands including KFC, Pizza Hut, Jindingxuan, GangLi Beijing, Slow Boat Brewery, Hema, METRO China, and more.


Candy Chan, general manager for Beyond Meat in China, said the new Jiaxing plant will enable the company to quickly innovate and roll out products at the speed and scale required to stay competitive in the region.


Beyond Meat is set to open its first owned manufacturing facility in Europe later this year.
