EFSA confirms the efficacy and safety of Novus's feed enzyme product

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a scientific opinion on Novus International's CIBENZA® EP150 feed additive as an efficacious and safe zootechnical feed additive.
The authority has concluded the product is safe for target animals, consumers and the environment. It is also effective to enhance the performance of chickens for fattening, chickens reared for laying and other avian species used for meat production, when a reduced protein diet is provided.
The feed additive contains a protease enzyme produced by fermentation of a single strain of naturally-occurring Bacillus licheniformis in combination with spores of the production strain. Formulating diets with the feed additive will allow producers to enhance the digestibility of a broad range of protein sources, thereby allowing flexibility in their utilisation and reduction of dietary protein level.
"The positive conclusions from EFSA on CIBENZA EP150 demonstrate Novus's innovation capabilities and confirm its commitment to delivering solutions for sustainable animal production," said Uwe Ranft, Area General Manager, Europe & Middle East at Novus.
Following EFSA's scientific opinion, final European Union registration for the feed additive is anticipated in the coming months. The opinion is accessible via: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/efsajournal/doc/4055.pdf
