Chinese vitamin D3 market ready for a rebound
An eFeedLink Exclusive
Dropping about 10% during Q1 of 2017, vitamin D3 prices showed signs of stabilising towards late March.
The market has been on weak trends since a year ago after prices hit a high of RMB140/kg in April 2016. Sliding steadily since then, vitamin D3 prices have more than halved over the past twelve months.
There are seven major vitamin D3 producers in the world, with four in China. The three overseas producers are more focused on food-grade and pharmaceutical products, hence leaving Chinese producers to dominate the feed-grade vitamin D3 market. As one of the four major Chinese producers accounts for over 50% of the country's output, a price rebound in the near term is highly likely with prices merely a stone's throw away from January 2016's record-low.
