Brazil now biggest poultry meat supplier to South Africa
South Africa's biggest supplier of poultry meat is Brazil as sales to the former amounted to US$132.8 million in 2015.
This is despite higher import tariffs (whole chicken from 27% to 82%, and cuts from 5% to 12%) implemented by South Africa.
Last year, South Africa imported US$365.7 million of the product, with 36.3% of poultry meat bought from Brazil.
The trend is a rise from 2014 in which Brazilian sales to the country was 31.5% of the overall, according to the Secretariat of Agribusiness International Relations (SRI) of Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA).
