Market analysis
Demand for pork remained flat as consumers limited buying, hence dragging carcass prices lower by over 1% to RMB21.04/kg.
However, with supplies of finishing hog tight, farmers stood firm on prices. Rising in most regions, hog prices strengthened by 1.5%, putting a stop to the six-week slide.
Market forecast
Pork demand should improve in the coming weeks due to tradition of offering prayers to ancestors during Qingming Festival. This should help to underpin the prices of hog together with tight availability.
