China methionine market under pressure amid excess supply

Prices of methionine moved lower during the week ending March 28.

As broiler prices continued to fall, poultry farmers limited both chick and feed purchases. This in turn decimated the sales of methionine as feed millers prudently withheld procurements.

Price quotes of imported dl-methionine weakened to the range of RMB27.50-29.50/kg.

During February, China imported 11,224 tonnes of methionine, sharply lower by 22% on-month. Meanwhile, exports tumbled 59% to 566 tonnes.
