Political party says it will stop Norway's salmon tax if reelected

Norway's Conservative party said it will scrap a controversial salmon tax if reelected in 2025.

The party's leadership also hinted that European Union membership could be on the agenda again.

At the party's annual conference, senior officials said the salmon tax, also known as the ground rent tax, should be replaced by something closer to the Faroese model.

The party has been under pressure from the industry to take a firm stand against the current Norwegian government's tax proposal. The government, led by the Labour and Centre parties, has seen its poll ratings plummet over both the cost of living issue and the salmon tax.
