Indonesia province exports 11,500 tonnes of corn to Philippines

Indonesia's West Nusa Tenggara Province has exported 11,500 tonnes of corn to the Philippines - the second time it delivered this flagship commodity to the latter after 2016.

The export was conducted on March 20 at Badas Harbour, Sumbawa, and was observed by several officials of  the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Commerce as well as other local officials and farmers.

According to the governor of West Nusa Tenggara, TGB Zainul Majdi, the province had previously exported corn to regions outside Indonesia in 2017. West Nusa Tenggara was also established as a national food storage area by the central government.

"Thanks to the hard work of our farmers, corn production in 2017 increased by one million tonnes more than the previous year (1.1 million tonnes in 2016)... the result (was) 2.127 million tonnes (last year)," Majdi said.
