First ocean farm ships off Yantai, China

The first of Nordlaks' ocean farms is off the dock in Yantai, China, arriving in Norway this coming summer.

"There has been good progress in the construction of the last few weeks, and Havfarmen (ocean farm) is coming to Hadsel this summer," salmon farmer Nordlaks stated Tuesday.

The ocean farm, named "Jostein Albert" after the Northlaks chairman Jostein Albert Refsnes, has been built at Yantai Raffles' yard in eastern China.

But the project has not been without challenges.

"The corona virus also affects this project. Uncertainty is linked to the completion, commissioning and testing of equipment is effected due to strict restrictions on interior personnel to China. The timing of start-up and commissioning in Norway is still unclear," Nordlaks continues.

The 385-metre "Jostein Albert" is 33,000 tonnes and can hold up to millions of salmon.
