Market analysis
Supplies of hog increased, lifting pork carcass volumes by 1% to 7,601 tonnes, which was still substantially below pre-Chinese New Year levels due to slack pork demand. Prices dropped 1.4% to RMB22.24/kg as a result.
With availability abundant and buying interest weak, hog prices fell another 2% over the week. After the Chinese New Year holidays hog prices have dropped 9% accumulatively.
Market forecast
Lacklustre demand will continue to weigh on hog prices. However, with supplies of finishing hog limited and the Qingming Festival approaching, prices are expected to stabilise gradually.
