Customers can know origin, freshness of Tyson products with smartphones
With food-safety a growing concern in China, US-based Tyson Foods has added the feature "quick response" codes (QR codes) on its chicken products, which can be scanned with a smartphone to inform customers the meat's origin or when it entered the store so that they can know if the meat is.
Chinese customers like to buy fresh chicken meat, and Tyson Foods aims to win the confidence of Chinese customers by building its own farms across the country.
With China as the largest consumer of chicken and beef products in the world, Tyson is trying to draw more Chinese patrons by offering frozen prepared foods including New Orleans-style chicken wings. It also plans to expand online food sales and is partnering with e-commerce businesses, according to reports.
Tyson Foods is a recognised market leader in chicken, beef and pork, as well as prepared foods, including bacon, breakfast sausage, turkey, lunchmeat, hot dogs, pizza crusts and toppings, and tortillas. It supplies retail and foodservice customers in the US and some 130 other countries.
