Nigeria trains poultry farmers on bio-security
Nigeria's National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has begun training 75 small-holder poultry farmers in Plateau State on the control of avian influenza.
The virus poses a severe threat to local poultry farming, killing at least 40,000 birds in the state this year and afflicting significant economic costs.
"We are convinced that this training is very necessary for the profitable management of any animal farming business," said Steven Ndaks, the state coordinator of NDE.
The training workshop focused on bio-safety, bio-security and biological risk management. According to Ndaks, the programme will also present on germs control and measures to protect the population and environment, particularly against transmitted diseases from animal to man.
