Brazilian beef now finds its key market in China following the end of an embargo enforced over a BSE outbreak in the state of Paraná, Folha de São Paulo reported.
During June 2015 to January 2016, China's (excluding Hong Kong) purchase of beef from Brazil reached a value of US$517 million, taking up 16% of the South American nation's overall revenue from beef exports.
In the last eight months, China's Brazilian beef import is worth US$906 million when taking into account Hong Kong's purchases which is valued at US$389 million. The amount covered 28% of Brazil's beef exports.
Last year, exports to Hong Kong dropped 44%. It is, nevertheless, the third biggest importer of Brazilian beef due to its position as a transit point for beef deliveries to the Chinese mainland.
