Provanco Feeds introduces new egg-based product to prevent PEDv
A new egg yolk immunoglobulin formulation has proven effective against porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDv) in university research and field studies, according to Provanco Feeds.
The company is based in Le Center, Minnesota.
Orally administered, the immunogammaglobulin (IgG) product is formulated from natural egg proteins that contain zero live virus. It is intended for piglets for up to 12 hours following birth.
According to the company, Farrow X1™ is shown in both university research and field studies to stop the shedding of PEDv RNA.
It is the only product shown to eliminate PEDv RNA by the 28th day following post-inoculation. As it contains no live virus, pigs within the herd cannot be contaminated. In addition, Farrow X1 has no withdrawal period because it is free of antibiotics and growth hormones. The product also does not interfere with the pig's own active immunity to PEDv.
