Cherkizovo turkey processing complex in Russia nearing completion

The construction of Cherkizovo Group's turkey breeding and processing complex in Russia's Pervomaysky District in Tampov Region is on course, slated for completion late this year, the company announced.

The complex's custom-built equipment for the hatchery, feed mill and slaughtering facility--worth more than €40 million (US$45.67 million--has been delivered to the construction site, the company said.

The equipment include air-conditioning systems, machine tools, setters and other facilities for the poultry industry. They will be installed next month under the supervision of authorized representatives of the foreign suppliers from Spain, Italy, Denmark and Belgium.

The Cherkizovo Group, Russia's largest meat and feed producer, partnered with the Spanish firm Grupo Fuertes in May 2012 and formed Tambov Turkey LLC specifically for this complex project.

Completion of the complex is expected before the year ends. The complex will include a hatchery capable of producing 5.9 million eggs a year, a feed mill with a production capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year and storage capacity of 120,000 tonnes of grain.

The Tambov Turkey complex will have a production capacity of over 40,000 tonnes of turkey meat per year.
