7157 heifers from Chile has arrived in China
China's import of 7157 heifers from Chile had arrived in Tianjin Tanggu port end of last month. Out of the 7,157 heifers, 11 had died in the course of shipping, and 6 had eye infection.
Previously, China only imports cattle from Australia, New Zealand and Uruguay; however, due to the rapid growth in demand for domestic dairy consumption in recent years, China has since added Romania and Chile onto the list. And that was China's first import of heifers from Chile.
With an average weight of 272 kg and between 8-18 months of age, the heifers from south Chile will be sent to seven Chinese companies in six provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Gansu, and Qinghai.
According to Jorge Heine, Ambassador of Chile to China, Chile is expecting to export 30,000 cattle to China this year.
