South Korea confirms new bird flu case in Pocheon, total caseload now 88

South Korean health officials confirmed a new highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu case at a chicken egg farm in Pocheon, a northern border town 46km from Seoul, increasing the total caseload in the country to 88, Yonhap News Agency reported.

All poultry located near the farm have been slaughtered to contain the spread of the virus, with movement restrictions for poultry imposed in the region.

The first case of this new H5N8 bird flu outbreak in South Korea was reported in November 2020, three years since the last bird flu outbreak spread in the country.
