Global milk production down 0.4% in November
Milk production in each of the five key exporting regions of EU, US, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina decreased slightly in November 2015, according to AHDB Dairy, a division of the UK's Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board.
AHDB Dairy said that during that month, the annual milk production equivalent for the Key 5 was down 0.4% from October, although up slightly (0.3%) from September. November was the first month in more than two years that the production equivalent fell month-on-month in all five regions. However, the drop recorded for the EU was largely caused by exceptionally high production in October rather than particularly weak production in November, AHDB Dairy explained.
An annual equivalent is created by applying a seasonal adjustment to milk production for the Big 5 exporting regions. This allows figures to be compared month-on-month, allowing trends to be spotted earlier than the more traditional rolling 12-month total.
