22,000 chickens culled in Taiwan due to bird flu
A pathogenic avian influenza H5N2 outbreak was detected at a poultry farm in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan, resulting in 22,000 chickens culled to stop the spread of the virus, Taiwan News reported.
Taiwan's Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine said the farm voluntarily reported the virus outbreak.
Yunlin's Animal Disease Control Centre carried out culling operations in accordance with standard operating procedures, and the farm was under its supervision as it completed cleaning and disinfecting the site.
Taiwan's Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine reported 14 confirmed cases of bird flu and culling in poultry farms across the nation so far this year, including 12 chicken and two goose farms.
