Lacklustre demand drags down China methionine prices

Prices of methionine moved lower during the week ending January 29.

Sales of poultry feed and hence methionine was slow as farmers limited buying while the prices of eggs weakened.

China's methionine export increased 15% to 5,727 tonnes in December, whereas imports plunged 26% to 11,498 tonnes. Despite the fall in supply, methionine availability remained ample due to the high capacity of the industry.

For liquid methionine, price quotes were stable at RMB16.80-17/kg.
