USMEF releases statement on TPP withdrawal order

In response to US President Donald Trump's executive order to withdraw the US as a signatory to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) president and CEO Philip M. Seng has issued an official statement on the matter.

"USMEF remains fully committed to our valued trading partners in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). These countries account for more than 60% of US red meat exports," Seng says.

According to the official, the US red meat industry will remain at a serious competitive disadvantage in some key markets "unless meaningful market access gains are realised". Seng exhorts the new administration to return the US to a competitive position through all available means so that the industry can "continue to serve this important international customer base and further expand our export opportunities".
