Control measures implemented in Brandenburg, Germany, to fight FMD

Germany has updated the European Commission of the current foot and mouth disease (FMD) situation on its territory.

Following an outbreak of the disease in an establishment that keeps water buffalo in the state of Brandenburg — which was confirmed on January 10 — the country has established a restricted zone, which comprises protection and surveillance zones.

In accordance with Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/687, disease control measures were applied to prevent the further spread of FMD.

Authorities also urged producers and livestock farmers to strictly follow the regulations imposed to ensure the sector's safety.
