Keningau, Sabah, Malaysia reclassified as red zone after ASF found on backyard pig farm

Keningau in Sabah, Malaysia has been reclassified as a red zone following the detection of an African swine fever (ASF) case on January 7, involving a backyard pig farm.

The virus had affected 12 of the 20 pigs kept by the farmer, said state Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan in a statement.

The Keningau Veterinary Services Department (DVS) has culled 12 pigs, while the remaining eight will no longer be allowed to roam freely.

"This discovery has resulted in Keningau being reclassified from a green zone (recovery zone) to a red zone (infected zone)," said Kitingan.
