New H5N8 bird flu outbreak reported in Poland goose farm
Tomasz Stube, the spokesman for the Wielkopolska region said 6,000 geese on the farm will be culled, adding to the six H5N8 bird flu cases already discovered in the country, reported Reuters.
Stube said the state veterinary incorporate has already implemented measures to halt the spread of the H5N8 bird flu virus, with all geese on the farm expected to be culled.
Polish state news agency PAP confirmed that the virus is a subtype of the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu, which has a small probability of infecting humans.
Six H5N8 bird flu cases have been reported in Poland since December 2019, which has previously not reported a bird flu outbreak since 2017.
Poland is Europe's largest poultry producer.
