H5N8 bird flu outbreak reported in northern Hungary
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said a highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu outbreak was detected on a farm in Acs town, northern Hungary, Reuters reported.
The OIE, citing a report from Hungary's Ministry of Agriculture, said 150 fattening turkeys out of 47,596 were killed by the virus, with the remaining turkeys to be culled.
Bird flu outbreaks have been reported across Europe, believed to be spread by migratory wild birds. The region's poultry industry is on high alert after previous bird flu outbreaks resulted in tens of millions of birds culled.
