Emmi to gain full control of J.L Freeman

Swiss milk processor, Emmi, is acquiring a full ownership of J.L Freeman, a cheese company based in Boucherville, Canada.

Planned to be completed during the first quarter of 2015, the move provides Emmi with a foothold in the North American market from which it will expand across the region as well as securing market access for incoming Swiss cheese exports.

As part of the company's efforts to boost its presence there, Emmi will continue to strengthen its specialty cheese businesses in the US and Canada.

According to Emmi, the US is its largest foreign market which had, for years, generated strong sales for the company.

J.L Freeman, Canada's top importer of specialty cheeses which it obtained mainly from Switzerland, Italy and France, will continue to operate independently under its current management after the acquisition is concluded with approval by the Canadian government.
