Tyson Foods resumes operations at Columbus Junction, Iowa pork plant

Major US meatpacker Tyson Foods has resumed operations at its Columbus Junction, Iowa pork plant, which was temporarily closed for three weeks following a mechanical malfunction, Reuters reported.

Liz Croston, a spokeswoman for the company, said workers at the Columbus Junction, Iowa plant will begin slaughtering swine into pork cuts on January 7, with production set to increase gradually.

The plant slaughters about 10,100 swine daily or 2% of the United States' total slaughtering capacity, according to industry estimates.
