Hendrix-ISA to build 24-million layer hatchery in US

Hendrix-ISA will purchase 20 acres of land in Grand Island, Nebraska for building a 24-million layer hatchery.

The new hatchery, along with fully operating hatcheries in Ephrata, Pennsylvania and in Blackstone, Virginia, will serve the US market with premium quality day-old layer chicks.

Peter Mumm, managing director of Hendrix-ISA LLC, says, "Nebraska is the best and safest location today to serve our growing customer base. The people, the Midwestern location, and proximity to feed sources and our customers all contributed to our decision to make Grand Island the future home of our expansion."

With biosecurity concerns in mind, the company is convinced that the location site will protect their investment and secure uninterrupted delivery of day-old chicks to their customers.

The company intends to have the first chicks available in the first quarter of 2017.

Hendrix-ISA will continue to focus on the leading brown and white products -- Isa Brown, Bovans Brown, Shaver White, Dekalb White and Bovans White. Mumm points out, "With respect to our current products, we are excited to be re-launching the DeKalb White. With the industry transitioning to more Aviary Systems for the production of cage-free white eggs, our geneticists have designed a docile bird, we believe, that will dominate that market."
