Russian meat products permitted to enter Iran by mid-January

Russia's poultry, beef and ready meat products could soon enter Iran by January 18 this year, following the signing of a trade agreement between both nations.

The conclusion of the deal came after successful talks last December between Sergei Dankvert, the head of Russian veterinary agency Rosselkhoznadzor, and Mehdi Khaladzhi, the head of Iranian Veterinary Organisation.

Approved Russian suppliers include Bryansk Broiler and Bryansk Meat Company.

In addition, Russian animal products could be able to reach a third country via Iran. Such products will be attached with veterinary certificates from Rosselkhoznadzor.

During the December talks, Iran signed and submitted veterinary certificates for milk and dairy product exports to the EU. Russia will help to facilitate the process with authorities in Eurasian EU states.

Based on the recent agreement, Iranian firms may also be allowed to export duty-free chicken meat to Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. 

To reciprocate Iran's import approval of its meat products, Russia had promised to cut down or even withdraw import duties on specific meat products from the country.
