Indonesia's chicken shortage could further push poultry stocks
February 18, 2019 Indonesia's chicken shortage could further push poultry stocks Indonesia's poultry stocks could seen more gains this year, as the country's chicken shortage is expected to worsen, according to financial service provider CGS-CIMB Sekuritas. The supply of chicks could fall to three billion in 2019, from 3.2 billion in 2018, based on projections made by the country's poultry association. The decline came after the government banned the use of antibiotics in chicken feed, analyst Patricia Gabriela wrote in a report. As a result of a shortage of chickens, the stock price of poultry producer PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia had rose 2.8% since the start of this year after increasing 140% last year. The company is expected to report a record profit for 2018, with its widest net profit margin in five years, according to analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. In addition, shares of PT Malindo Feedmill increased 20% this year after rallying 89% in 2018, while PT Japfa Comfeed saw its shares ro

Philippines suspends pork imports from Vietnam over swine fever concerns
February 18, 2019 Philippines suspends pork imports from Vietnam over swine fever concerns In response to revelations that pork samples from Vietnam had been tested positive for African swine fever (ASF) by quarantine authorities, Manny Piñol, Agriculture Secretary of the Philippines, has called for a temporary suspension of importing pork and pork products from that country to the Philippines, INQUIRER.net reported. The ban went into effect immediately, Piñol announced on his Facebook page. The action was recommended by Dr. Ronnie Domingo, director of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI). The bureau has been instructed to impose the ban with immediate effect even though the memorandum to implement it has yet to be signed, Piñol said. "The Philippines is one of the few countries in the world which is free from livestock diseases, including foot and mouth disease," he added. "Vietnam is the latest to be included in the list of countries which could not ship pork and pork products to the Philippines

Nor Fishing Foundation accepts applications for 2019 Innovation Award
February 13, 2019 Nor Fishing Foundation accepts applications for 2019 Innovation Award Norway's Nor Fishing Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2019 Innovation Award, which Scotland-based Ace Aquatec won in 2017. Eligible to apply are commercial companies and individuals from all over the world that supply equipment or services to the aquaculture industry, or are in the aquaculture industry. The winner will receive NOK100,000 (US$11,544), and will be announced Aug. 20, when the four-day Aqua Nor 2019 opens in Trondheim. The board of the Nor-Fishing Foundation has seen it fit to give the award to a Norwegian or foreign company or individual for the best project in the aquaculture industry because commercial companies and individuals have less access to financial support than the large research institutions. The board hopes that this will stimulate more innovation in the commercial sector. The application deadline is May 1, 2019. More information can be had at https://www.aqua-nor.no/inno

Quiet market holds China lysine prices flat
February 13, 2019 Quiet market holds China lysine prices flat Lysine prices were unchanged during the week ending February 1. Trade was light during the last week of January as China prepared for the celebration of Chinese New Year. Producers were not eager to cut prices knowing that demand would be sluggish with buyers halting operation. For imported 98.5-percent lysine, transacted prices were in the range of RMB9.90-10.30/kg. After the one-week hiatus in early February, livestock demand will remain soft. Lysine sales are unlikely to improve with the livestock markets underperforming and buyers treading prudently. RMB1=US$0.1480 (Feb 13) The full market report (with complete data) of this excerpt is available here. All rights reserved. No part of the report may be reproduced without permission from eFeedLink.

Japan allows beef imports from Marfrig, Minerva's Uruguayan plants
February 11, 2019 Japan allows beef imports from Marfrig, Minerva's Uruguayan plants Japan has allowed the import of fresh beef from all seven Uruguay-based plants of Marfrig Global Foods SA and Minerva SA, the Brazilian food processors said. The approval is the result of an agreement signed between Uruguay and Japan in December last year, putting to end the nearly two decades of hiatus in fresh beef trade between both countries. In a statement, Miguel Gularte, chief executive of Marfirg's South American operation, described the latest development as "a great opportunity for the company." Now that its Uruguayan plants are able to access Japan - currently the third biggest beef importer in the world according to the USDA - Marfrig could leverage the knowledge and experience of its commercial teams in Chicago, US, and Tokyo to push the business. The company is the top beef supplier in Uruguay, with capacity to slaughter 700,000 head of cattle per year, Marfrig said. Minerva revealed that its three plants
