GAA, IFFO partner to improve responsible fishmeal supplies in Southeast Asia
June 6, 2017 GAA, IFFO partner to improve responsible fishmeal supplies in Southeast Asia The Global Aquaculture Alliance ( GAA) and IFFO, the Marine Ingredients Organisation, are working together to fund a project which will improve the understanding of Southeast Asian fisheries supplying raw material for fishmeal production. The study will look at the issues from the perspective of social, economic and environmental sustainability factors. The aim is to identify improvements that can be prioritised and targeted to enable increasingly responsible supplies of fishmeal. This will support change in fisheries management in the region, thus driving the adoption of certification in the supply chain, and ultimately supporting the development of best practices in aquaculture. A variety of relevant and critical stakeholders including NGOs, governments, feed companies and standards holders will be invited to participate. Duncan Leadbitter (Fish Matter Pty) will head the project on behalf of the two organi

US-based Calysta seeks business opportunities in China for fishmeal alternatives
January 29, 2016 US-based Calysta seeks business opportunities in China for fishmeal alternatives Dennis Leong, vice president of business development at US biotech company, Calysta, was in China on a business trip recently, together with the company's production manager, Allan LeBlanc. They had met the deputy secretary-general of China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance (CAPPMA), Di Gang, to discuss business opportunities for fishmeal alternatives in China. Calysta's FeedKind is a natural single-cell protein derived from the microbial reactions between methane and water. It is a cost-competitive alternative to conventional fishmeal, and has been approved for use by the European Union safety regulators. It is currently being used by feed supplier, EWOS, in their salmon feed. Besides looking to expand its business into China, Calysta also hope to promote its feed technology here with the right business partners. With existing sources of fishmeal supply becoming scarce in the future, th

New fishmeal plant to be set up in Sakhalin Oblast, Russia
July 20, 2015 New fishmeal plant to be set up in Sakhalin Oblast, Russia Yuanchzhen, a fish company from China, looks to setting up a fishmeal production plant in the Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. The new facility, which could get state support, will be based in the Korsakovsky district, a key fishing area in the region. With 43,000 tonnes of fish caught in the district last year, representatives of the project said that the plant will be sufficiently backed by a local raw material base. A partial volume of the plant’s output may likely be delivered to markets outside Far East Russia which does not possess a well-developed livestock and feed industry, and hence, not a conducive environment for fishmeal sales. Yuanchzhen representatives have yet to disclose the total capital and capacity of the plant.

The revenue for the month is US$103.5 million, compared to US$177.4 million of the same period last year. Volume stood at 53,100 tonnes, compared to 94,200 tonnes in 2014.
