Market analysis

Pork carcass volumes of major distribution centres rose substantially by 5% to 9,228 tonnes, amid expanding cured pork production. However, prices of pork carcass rose a marginal 0.47% to RMB19.12/kg as buyers were reluctant to increase prices.

In regions where supplies of hog were tight, prices strengthened over the week, supporting the average hog price to rise 1.3%.

Market forecast

Hog prices will move higher gradually as China prepares for the celebration of Chinese New Year. However, with the African swine fever rampant, the upward scope of the market will be limited.
