Global markets

CNF prices of Peruvian prime-grade fishmeal slid to US$1,530/tonne amid imminent rise in supply.

Peru's fish catch in the northern and central seas as of December 12 totalled 1.46 million tonnes, which was about 69% of the 2.1 million tonnes quota.

Market analysis

Dwindling aquaculture population hampered the sales of aqua feed and hence fishmeal. However, despite light trade and lower import costs, fishmeal traders stood firm over the week.

Price quotes for Peruvian prime-grade products were in the range of RMB10,800-11,200/tonne.

Market forecast

Fishmeal market will be under pressure as demand is unlikely to improve in the near term. With import costs lower, traders will be in a better position to negotiate prices.
