Global markets

As of December 4, the fish catch in the northern-central seas (season period: Nov 6-Dec 31) totalled 826,872 tonnes, which was 30% of the 2.79 million tonnes quota.

Market analysis

Fishmeal demand remained flat as the production of aqua feed dwindled toward annual lows with the farming season over. Port inventories increased 1.3% to 188,500 tonnes, hence putting a lid on the prices.

Price quotes for Peruvian prime-grade products stayed at RMB9,900-10,200/tonne.

Market forecast

Prices of fishmeal are likely to move lower with demand sluggish and port inventories climbing. Unless the Peru's fish catch takes an abrupt turn for the worse, fishmeal market will be under downward pressure in the coming months.
