Market analysis

Pork carcass volume recovered from post-festive low, increasing a prominent 4% to 8,044 tonnes, from the previous week's 7,728 tonnes. Hence, prices inched lower by 0.01% to RMB19.67/kg over the week in review.

Meanwhile, hog prices softened by 0.41% although overall supplies remained tight. As cross border hog trade continued to be banned in efforts to contain the spreading of African swine fever, prices of production regions softened amid excess supplies, whereas those of consumption regions move higher.

Market forecast

Prices of hog are expected to be soft as consumers cut pork intake as the outbreak of African swine disease shows no signs of improving. However, price falls will be limited due to low availability of hog in the country.
