Close to 65,000 pounds of raw beef recalled by Florida, US company

US health officials have kept distributors and consumers on the alert following the recalling of close to 65,000 pounds of raw beef by a Florida company due to the possibility of  a E. Coli contamination.

Raiford-based Pride of Florida issued the recall for beef produced between September 23 and October 10 after a sample was tested positive for a "potentially deadly strain of the  bacteria, E. coli 0157:H7, according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Officials advised consumers with the affected products to dispose or return them. The consumption of food contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7 may lead cramps, dehydration and diarrhea, as well as kidney failure in some cases, FSIS said.

Currently, there is no cases of people falling ill as a result of consuming the contaminated meat.
