*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Demand for methionine was slack as tumbling poultry products prices before the October long holidays dampened the confidence of feed millers. Most feed millers who have accumulated some supplies during September relied on existing stocks.

With demand soft and supplies ample, methionine producers negotiated prices in a bid to entice buyers.

In Europe, prices of Chinese methionine stayed in the range of EUR2.70-2.80/kg.

Market forecast

Supplies of methionine are expected to be ample as most producers have resumed production. Methionine prices are poised to stay weak as feed producers are unlikely to expand output with poultry market under pressure.
