In three days' time, on Oct. 21, the GOAL 2019 Conference will open in Chennai, India, the first time that GOAL will be held in India in its 19-year history. This conference offers an opportunity to join other forward-thinking leaders from across the global aquaculture value chain in reviewing production, sustainability, innovation and market drivers.

 

We've picked nine other events slated within the next three months, including the three-day Sustainable Ocean Summit in Paris, France, on Nov. 20-22. Held under the auspices of the World Ocean Council, this event is an annual gathering of the global ocean business community dedicated to advancing private-sector action on responsible use of the seas.

 

 

GOAL 2019 Conference

October 21 – 24, 2019

This year's 20th edition of GOAL (Global Outlook for Aquaculture Leadership) Conference will be held at the Leela Palace in Chennai, India. This is the first time that GOAL is being held in India in its 19-year history.

 

GOAL 2009 offers an opportunity to join other forward-thinking leaders from across the global aquaculture value chain in reviewing production, sustainability, innovation and market drivers. You'll get valuable knowledge, strategic relationships and an understanding of emerging issues and solutions.

 

Ramanan Laxminarayan, Darian McBain and Fabrice DeClerck will be the keynote speakers. They will address three of the major challenges facing aquaculture—antibiotic use in aquaculture and antimicrobial resistance in humans, social responsibility, and balancing responsible food production with the health of humans and the planet, respectively.

 

Over 60 speakers will provide insight on the trends shaping the future of responsible aquaculture production and sourcing.

 

The conference programme covers topics ranging from improvements in shrimp production practices and disease management techniques to innovations in salmon farming, processing and marketing; area management, capacity building and smallholder engagement; investment; and feed sustainability.

2019 IFFO Annual Conference

November 4 – 6, 2019

This year's conference of the Marine Ingredients Organisation (IFFO) will deliver a sound mix of business-related topics and social networking. IFFO is an international trade organisation that represents and promotes the marine ingredients industry, such as fishmeal, fish oil and other related industries.

 

The conference programme features speeches by well-known visiting speakers from the food retailing, commodity, financial and fishing worlds, as well as experts from human and animal nutrition. 

 

The first day will have, among many others, a talk on "Update on the shrimp market in Asia", on the second day a session on "Comparing the environmental impacts of marine protein with land-based vegetable protein: Update on the IFFO project", and on the third day an update on "Major global trends in the aqua sector".

Infofish World Shrimp Conference and Exposition

November 12 – 14, 2109

With the theme "Modelling for Sustainability," this international conference on shrimp, held at the JW Marriott hotel in Bangkok, will consider at length the present and future of the industry, focusing on moving toward sustainability. A large part of the sessions will be devoted to production and trade at the domestic and international levels, as well as the latest developments in the shrimp industry. Some 250 delegates, both international and local, representing various segments of the seafood industry, are expected to participate.

 

Driven by environmental and social factors, as well as the recurrent disease outbreaks in shrimp farming, the focus now is toward sustainability. With the various challenges faced by the shrimp industry, there is a need to properly identify and promote systems that will lead to sustainable development.

 

In conjunction with the conference, an exhibition will be organised at the same venue. The event will showcase and promote products, supplies and equipment from regional and international players. 47th US-Japan Natural Resources Panel on Aquaculture

The 47th US-Japan Natural Resources Scientific Symposium on "Marine Aquaculture in a Changing Environment" will be held Nov. 12-15 in Okinawa.

 

The 47th UJNR Aquaculture Symposium is the last year of the current three-year theme of "Marine Aquaculture in a Changing Environment."

 

The UJNR Aquaculture Panel is a cooperative research exchange between the US and Japan, jointly addressing environmental and technical issues that affect the aquaculture industries of both nations.

 

This year's presentations will focus on the use of science and aquaculture technologies to increase food production to offset deficits from losses of wild fisheries and terrestrial agriculture due to environmental change or to aid in the recovery or enhance wild and farmed seafood impacted by environmental change and perturbation.

Oceans of Knowledge 2019

The Oceans of Knowledge conference series considers the operational use of ocean observations and technologies. Now in its third edition, the 2019 conference, to be held at The Royal Institution in London, will focus on the specific role of ocean observations in identifying and mitigating future risks to ocean uses and facilitating a sustainable blue economy.

 

The conference will be opened by a keynote presentation from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Ocean Economy Group. This keynote will summarise recent OECD work on understanding the future ocean economy and its dependence on ocean observations.

 

Subsequent morning presentations will take a closer look at a range of high growth ocean uses such as autonomous shipping; open water aquaculture; marine mining; and offshore wind.

 

The afternoon will then explore the future direction of technologies which will play a key role in enabling future sustainable ocean use.

 

Each session will also include a panel discussion to further expand on the topics raised and offer the opportunity for delegates to engage with speakers. Dedicated networking sessions will also be held throughout the day.

Latin American & Caribbean Aquaculture 2019

This is the first time this event, called LACQUA for short, will be held in Central America, a region rich in natural resources and of whose several countries are currently in a process of political and social changes, aimed at improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.

 

The central theme of LACQUA 2019 is "Sustainable Aquaculture for Social and Economic Development", since the promotion of this activity aims to contribute to the development and well-being of the countries of the region.

 

LACQUA 2019, which will be held at the Wyndham Herradura Convention Centre, will be a great opportunity to meet and discuss the most recent advances in the production of aquatic organisms in Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

Expected to attend are researchers, students, producers and suppliers.
